This is my side of this

Early this year a neophyte writer who claimed to be witting for the magazine set an interview with me to write about me and potato corners. We did the interview in our office and because it was about me, I told him my perspective about how I rose from being a working student and crew of Wendy's to the success of potato corner.

Then later, the article was published in the April or May issue of entrepreneur Magazine. To my surprise, I found it in accurate and I found some things that I think I was miss quoted about. The article was never sent to me for approval before it was published.

Jenny Wieneke called me and called me over the phone "walang hiya ka . . ." and other stuff. And she told me she will write and complain to the Editor in Chief. I said sorry to her and I told her I never tell anyone that I started potato corner on my own, hat it was my idea and was its originator, as the article mentioned. I told Jenny that I was probably mis quoted. And I know that this new writer told things based on his pick up of his interview on me. If you see my history of interviews and write up and talks about myself and potato corner, I never mention that I was the one who started and originated it and in fact I give credit always to the Partners who invited me to join.

Now, even if I made a mistake, which people do, I hope the article that Jenny wrote and published by Entrepreneur Magazine the following month after that neophytes article was enough to correct this and time to all of the parties to move on.

I have no problem that Jenny wrote an article against the article written about me and potato corner because the article was indeed inaccurate but I do think that further posting in the web is no longer fair and balanced and will continue to destroy and image of the brand and the goodwill be have made for it.

PFA Sets 5-year Road Map: Strengthening PFA Brand is Core Goal

As the “voice of Philippine franchising,” the Philippine Franchise Association (PFA) opened the year with renewed resolve to bring franchising further to the next level and to maintain its position as the premier franchise association in the country. This developed as the PFA Board of Trustees and Officers held its strategic planning at the Manila Polo Club with Dr. Ramon Quesada facilitating the planning workshop.

The strategic planning workshop was participated in by: Atty. The participants were divided into three groups with Ms. Yvette Orbeta, Mr. Raymund Reyes and Mr. Robert Trota heading each group.

“The key to bringing franchising to the next level and to maintain PFA’s position as the premier franchise association in the country is to strengthen the PFA brand,” said Ms. Bing S. Limjoco, PFA Chairman. “We want the PFA to be an aspirational brand,” she further expounded. “While we want franchisors to desire to become PFA members, we would like to make sure that existing members can be proud of PFA. The PFA logo should be cherished by making it a potent symbol for all PFA members.”

With the strengthening of the brand, the PFA aims to strengthen its role as the advocate of the franchise sector’s interests. “And by achieving this, we shall be able to further strengthen the sector at the same time open more opportunities to everyone,” PFA President Robert Trota remarked.

With a stronger PFA brand, other key goals for the next five years will also fall into place. These goals, also raised during the strategic planning, include the following:

* to increase quality membership
* to make PFA the association of choice for micro, SMEs, large and international companies
* to encourage active participation of members
* to widen networking opportunities for PFA members

These goals fall in line with PFA’s advocacy as it continues to be the Voice of Philippine Franchising and thus further improve the business climate for the franchise sector so as to maintain the Philippines’s position as the Franchise Hub of Asia especially in franchise concept development. While there have been many important and vital milestones achieved, the PFA Board admits that there’s still much to be done and is inviting everyone concerned, especially the PFA members, to join hands for the realization of these goals.

“After all, the success of PFA will be the success of the entire franchise sector,” said Mr. Robert Trota, PFA President. “Yes, there are challenges ahead; and these will require hard work, but we can be assured of the fact that by working together, PFA can do much more in the future, more so now that the PFA membership has almost reached the 200-mark and is continuing to increase,” Mr. Trota concluded.

“Secret to Franchising Success” to be Unraveled at Franchise 2008,
16th PIFCE

It is all systems go for the biggest and the longest-running franchise show in the country and even in the ASEAN region – the Philippine International Franchise Conference and Expo (PIFCE), which is on its 16th outing and is slated on July 7 to 13 with the theme “Secrets to Franchising Success.”

Kicking off the event is the Certified Franchise Executive (CFE) Program on July 7 and 8 at the Asian Institute of Management Conference Center. Chris Simnick, President and Founder of Synergy Franchise Development, Inc. and Managing Member and founder of Synergy Franchise Group, LLC, will be the CFE lecturer-moderator for Module 3. The mini-MBA course on Franchise Management earns credit points for CFE designation by the Institute of Certified Franchise Executives.

The week-long event will also feature a two-day Conference at the Renaissance Hotel in Makati. Slated on July 9 and 10, the Conference will tackle the latest developments affecting the franchising industry, the emerging local and international trends, and other unlimited business opportunities.

Topics include Trends and Opportunities in the Global Franchise Landscape; Technology Solutions for the Franchise System; Secrets of Successful Franchise Stories; Benchmarks from the Successful Entrepreneurs; New Channels of Distribution; and, Outsourcing as a Way of Making Organizations More Effective and Efficient.

Now on its new home at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City, Franchise Expo 2008 will run from July 11 to 13. The premier three-day expo will provide unlimited franchising investment opportunities from local and international brands in food, retail and service industries. With more than 6,500 sqm of exhibit area and 300 booths, this year’s franchise expo is 25% bigger than last year’s show. A series of informative seminars will also be held during the one-stop shopping expo.

The annual franchise event has shown continuous growth through the years. Last year’s expo tallied increases in the numbers of both exhibitors and visitors as compared to 2006 figures. Exhibitors also reported that business generated for them by Franchise Expo 2007 registered an upsurge of 29%, accounting to estimated revenues of up to Php 319 million.
